Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how TetaCode ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use TetaChat, our Electron-based desktop chat application ("the App"), and our website at chat.tetacode.com.
Introduction
At TetaCode, we are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data responsibly, transparently, and in accordance with applicable data protection laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and other applicable regulations.
By downloading, installing, or using TetaChat, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, please do not use the App.
Privacy-First Design: TetaChat is built with a privacy-first approach. We collect only the minimum data necessary to operate the service. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly to us and certain information automatically when you use the App.
2.1 Information You Provide
- Account Information: When you register, we collect your username, email address, and password (stored as a secure hash).
- Profile Data: Optional display name, profile picture, and status message you choose to add.
- Messages & Content: The content of messages, files, images, and other media you send or receive through the App.
- Communications with Us: When you contact our support team, we collect the content of your communications.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Usage Data: Information about how you interact with the App, including features used, session duration, and crash logs.
- Device Information: Operating system type and version, hardware model, and application version.
- Network Information: IP address (used for connection establishment and abuse prevention — not stored permanently), and connection quality metrics.
- Log Data: Error reports, diagnostic information, and application performance data to help us identify and fix bugs.
2.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect your contacts or address book.
- We do not access your microphone, camera, or screen without explicit consent.
- We do not collect financial or payment information.
- We do not track your browsing activity outside the App.

How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- Provide and operate the App: To create your account, authenticate you, deliver messages, and enable all App features.
- Improve and develop the App: To analyze usage patterns, fix bugs, and build new features that users actually need.
- Security and trust: To detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, security incidents, and violations of our Terms of Service.
- Support: To respond to your questions, requests, and feedback when you contact us.
- Legal compliance: To comply with applicable laws, legal processes, and enforceable government requests.
- Service communications: To send important service notifications such as security alerts or policy updates.
We do not use your data for advertising. We do not build advertising profiles, track you across other websites or apps, or sell your personal information to third parties.
Legal basis for processing (GDPR users): Contract performance (operating the App you requested), legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, product improvement), legal obligation, and consent where explicitly sought (e.g., optional crash reporting).
Data Sharing & Disclosure
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal data to third parties. We may share your information only in the limited circumstances described below:
4.1 Service Providers
We may share data with trusted third-party vendors who help us operate the App (e.g., hosting providers, database services). These providers are contractually obligated to handle your data securely and only as directed by us.
4.2 Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety, or investigate fraud.
4.3 Business Transfers
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of our assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. You will be notified via email and/or prominent notice in the App prior to any such transfer.
4.4 With Your Consent
We may share your information with third parties when you explicitly instruct us to do so or provide your consent.
4.5 Aggregated / Anonymized Data
We may share anonymized, aggregated statistics about App usage (e.g., "X active users per month") that do not identify any individual user.
Data Storage & Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
- All data is transmitted over TLS 1.2 or higher encrypted connections.
- Messages are encrypted in transit and at rest using industry-standard encryption.
- Passwords are stored using a strong one-way cryptographic hash (bcrypt).
- Access to production systems is restricted to authorized personnel only.
- We conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
- We operate on infrastructure with SOC 2 Type II certified data centers.
Security Disclosure: While we take all commercially reasonable steps to protect your data, no method of transmission or electronic storage is 100% secure. If you discover a security vulnerability, please report it responsibly to info@tetacode.com.
Data Retention
We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to provide you the App's services and as required by law.
- Account data is retained until you delete your account or request deletion. Upon deletion, we remove it within 30 days, except where retention is legally required.
- Message data is retained in connection to your account. You can delete individual messages or entire conversations at any time. Deleted messages are permanently removed within 7 days.
- Log data and diagnostics are retained for a maximum of 90 days.
- IP address logs are retained for a maximum of 30 days for security and abuse-prevention purposes.
- Support communications are retained for 2 years to help us resolve follow-up issues.
Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
7.1 Rights Under GDPR (EU/EEA/UK Users)
- Right of Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten"): Request deletion of your personal data.
- Right to Restrict Processing: Request that we limit how we use your data.
- Right to Data Portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to Object: Object to our processing of your data based on legitimate interests.
- Right to Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
- Right to Lodge a Complaint: File a complaint with your local Data Protection Authority.
7.2 Rights Under CCPA (California Users)
- Right to know what personal information is collected, used, shared, or sold.
- Right to delete personal information held by us.
- Right to opt-out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal data).
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.

Data Deletion Requests
You have the right to request permanent deletion of all personal data we have collected about you. We take this right seriously and will fully honor all valid deletion requests.
8.1 How to Request Data Deletion
You may submit a data deletion request through any of the following methods:
- In-App Deletion: Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account within TetaChat to immediately initiate account and data deletion.
- Email Request: Send an email to info@tetacode.com with the subject line "Data Deletion Request" and include your registered email address or username so we can locate your account.
8.2 What Happens After You Request Deletion
- We will acknowledge your request within 3 business days.
- Your account will be deactivated immediately upon your in-app deletion request.
- All personal data will be permanently and irreversibly deleted within 30 days of the request.
- Message data shared in group conversations will be deleted or anonymized.
- Backup data will be fully purged within 90 days.
- We will send you a confirmation email once deletion is complete.
8.3 Exceptions to Deletion
In limited circumstances, we may be required to retain certain data even after a deletion request:
- Data required to comply with a legal obligation (e.g., regulatory audits).
- Data needed to resolve ongoing legal disputes or enforce our agreements.
- Anonymized or aggregated data that cannot identify you.
We will inform you if any such exception applies to your deletion request.
Facebook / Meta Users: If you connected TetaChat to any Meta/Facebook service, you may also request data deletion directly through Facebook's Off-Facebook Activity tool. Submitting a deletion request through that tool will also trigger deletion of any associated data we hold.
Children's Privacy
TetaChat is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the European Union and UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under these ages.
If we become aware that a child under 13 (or 16 in applicable jurisdictions) has provided us with personal information without verifiable parental consent, we will take immediate steps to delete that information from our systems.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at info@tetacode.com so we can take appropriate action.
Third-Party Services
TetaChat may integrate with or link to third-party services. These services have their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to review them. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party services.
10.1 Infrastructure Partners
We use reputable cloud infrastructure providers to host the App's backend services. These partners are bound by Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) that obligate them to handle your data in accordance with applicable laws.
10.2 Optional Integrations
When you choose to connect TetaChat with optional third-party services (e.g., cloud storage providers for file sharing), we will clearly disclose what data is shared before you activate the integration. You can revoke access at any time from the App's Settings.
10.3 Analytics
We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate usage patterns. Any analytics data is anonymized and does not include your message content, username, or other personally identifiable information.
Cookies & Tracking Technologies
11.1 Desktop Application
The TetaChat desktop application does not use browser cookies. It uses local storage on your device exclusively to save your session and preferences. This data stays on your device and is not sent to third parties.
11.2 Website
Our website (chat.tetacode.com) uses minimal, essential cookies only:
- Session cookie: Remembers your preferences during a visit. Deleted when you close your browser.
- No tracking cookies: We do not use advertising, tracking, or behavioral analytics cookies.
- No third-party cookies: We do not embed third-party tracking scripts on this website.
You can configure your browser to refuse cookies without affecting your ability to use our website.
International Data Transfers
TetaChat is a global application. If you are located outside the country where our servers are based, your information may be transferred across international borders.
When we transfer personal data from the EU/EEA to countries without an EU adequacy decision, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission, or other legally recognized transfer mechanisms.
By using TetaChat, you understand and consent to the transfer of your information to our facilities and to those third parties with whom we share it as described in this privacy policy.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or for other operational reasons. When we make material changes, we will:
- Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
- Display a prominent notice within the TetaChat application.
- Send an email notification to registered users where required by law.
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of TetaChat after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. If you do not agree to the changes, please discontinue use and request account deletion.
